Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement, Inc. was established by and for Latino families in 1975 as a non profit organization to address an unmet need; high quality, bilingual learning environments where children grow to become successful lifelong bilingual learners. BAHIA is the only full-time, Latino non profit in Berkeley providing bilingual child-care and education to children ages 2-10. BAHIA is a respected leader in the community striving every year to improve the quality of life of children and their families in the community, with a particular focus on Latino families in Alameda County.

Our Programs

The Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement, Inc. (BAHIA, Inc.) is a private, non-profit corporation that receives funding from the State Department of Education Child Development Division, City of Berkeley, Child Care Food Program and parent fees for services and foundation grants.  BAHIA, Inc. operates three childcare centers in Berkeley: Centro VIDA, serving 64 children ages 2 to 5 years and Bahia School Age Program, serving 65 children ages 5 to 10 years and La Academia de Bahia  an AM part-time bilingual care program for children ages 3-4 years old; our fourth program is in Fremont, CA, La Academia de Centro VIDA a bilingual Saturday pre-kindergarten readiness program for 40 children ages 3-5 years primarily funded through First Five of Alameda County.
